The Apocalyptic Imagination of Space and Sacred Place at Qumran

Nell’immaginario apocalittico dei rotoli di Qumran, i luoghi e gli spazi sacri assumono un valore fondamentale, in quanto esprimono un’ermeneutica e una traiettoria teologica divergenti rispetto a quelle della classe politico-religiosa dominante al momento della loro redazione. La presente sezione monografica analizza, attraverso le immagini di Gerusalemme, del deserto e del Tempio, le modalità con cui tali spazi vengono riletti e risemantizzati. Giovanni Ibba, Andrea Ravasco e Giulio Mariotti, a partire rispettivamente dalla Nuova Gerusalemme, dalla Regola della comunità e dai Canti dell’olocausto del sabato, propongono chiavi interpretative volte a comprendere il ruolo dei luoghi e degli spazi sacri nell’elaborazione dell’immaginario apocalittico del giudaismo del Secondo Tempio.

In the apocalyptic imagination of the Qumran scrolls, spaces and sacred places assume a fundamental significance, insofar as they express an interpretive framework and a theological trajectory that diverge from those of the dominant politico-religious establishment at the time of their composition. This monographic section examines, through the images of Jerusalem, the desert, and the Temple, the ways in which such spaces are reread and resemantized. Giovanni Ibba, Andrea Ravasco, and Giulio Mariotti, drawing respectively on the New Jerusalem, the Community Rule, and the Songs of the Sabbath Sacrifice, propose interpretive keys aimed at better understanding the role of spaces and sacred places in shaping the apocalyptic imagination of Second Temple Judaism.
